Somuncu Baba Complex is Darende's most important religious and cultural treasure. Sheikh Hamid-i Veli (Somuncu Baba, 1331-1412), considered one of the spiritual architects of the Ottoman lands, settled in Darende and passed away here.
The complex is a comprehensive ensemble comprising a 17th-century mosque, tomb, museum, library, Hulusi Efendi Cemetery, historic bazaar (Hamidiye Bazaar), retreat chamber (çilehane) and picnic areas.
It is narrated that Hacı Bayram-ı Veli personally led Somuncu Baba's funeral prayer. The tomb ranks among Anatolia's important spiritual pilgrimage sites and receives hundreds of thousands of visitors annually. At the entrance to Tohma Canyon, it is a unique venue offering combined natural and spiritual experiences.
