Somuncu Baba

Şeyh Hamid-i Velî · 1331–1412

One of the spiritual architects of the Ottoman lands, Şeyh Hamid-i Velî distributed bread he baked to the poor, calling out 'Somun ya Mümin!' — earning him the name 'Somuncu Baba', the Bread Father.

When this great saint passed away in Darende in 1412, Hacı Bayram-ı Velî personally led his funeral prayer. Today his tomb and complex draw hundreds of thousands of pilgrims every year.
